Waste Strategy Project Kickoff Meeting, September 6, 2024

The MILE Organization, in collaboration with the directorate of climate change – Ministry of Environment, Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) representatives, and key stakeholders, is excited to launch an 18-month Waste Strategy Sector project in Iraq.

Project Goals:

  • Enhance waste management strategies.
  • Mitigate Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs).
  • Support the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Action Plan.


Project Impact:

This transformative initiative aims to improve environmental health and sustainability by advancing waste reduction, recycling, and energy recovery practices. The project will play a crucial role in driving Iraq’s climate action goals while enhancing the resilience of the waste management sector. During the kickoff, the Head of the Climate Change Department underscored the project’s significance for the Iraqi government’s environmental and climate priorities. A CCAC representative highlighted how the project will complement and build on existing efforts in the sector. MILE staff presented a comprehensive implementation plan, stressing the importance of collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure the success and long-term impact of the project.
