MILE’s Presentation on Integrating Climate Change Data with Mine Action during Directorate of Mine Action (DMA) Workshop
On September 30, 2024, the MILE Organization had the privilege of presenting on the critical link between climate change data (including drought, desertification, air quality, extreme heat, flooding, and dust storms) and explosive ordnance contamination in Iraq. This took place during a workshop hosted by the Directorate of Mine Action (DMA) in Baghdad, organized by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). The workshop aimed to support the integration of climate change indicators into Mine Action Program priorities, helping to inform future clearance operations. MILE’s presentation highlighted how this integration can shape prioritization strategies to address both environmental and explosive threats in Iraq.
