Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP) Reduction Meeting at the Ministry of Environment
On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the MILE Organization, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, organized a meeting at the Ministry of Environment. Chaired by the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Climate Change, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, Baghdad Municipality, the Planning Department, the Office of the Minister of Environment, and the technical team from the Directorate of Climate Change.
MILE presented a United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) funded study on SLCP emissions from the waste sector, using data from relevant entities. The goal of the study was to develop a waste management strategy, update the waste emissions inventory, and reduce SLCP emissions.
The project team discussed the challenges faced by the ministries and the waste management sector, proposing solutions based on the recommendations from the study.
