MILE Organization and Directorate of Climate Change Hold Meeting on Waste Management Policies and Green Job Creation in Iraq
MILE Organization, in collaboration with the Directorate of Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment, held a meeting on Monday, 23/12/2024, at the Ministry of Environment. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Naem Nabil, Deputy Director of the Directorate and a representative of the Clean Air and Climate Coalition (CCAC), with participants from the Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities, Baghdad Municipality, the Planning Directorate, and the technical team from the Directorate of Climate Change. The meeting focused on recommendations for developing waste management policies, innovative strategies for waste-to-energy conversion, and the potential for creating green jobs in the waste sector. This effort is part of Iraq’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) action plan, supported by UNEP and CCAC funding. Information was shared among participants, recent achievements were reviewed, and discussions were held on short-lived climate pollutants and the next steps for the project, emphasizing public health benefits through waste reduction. This meeting represents a key step toward achieving long-term environmental and economic sustainability and demonstrates Iraq’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals.
